Summer Skin Care Tips!
I know I haven't posted in a really long time... I've been pretty busy with my thesis but on a positive note I am officially done except for one last pesky deadline.
The good news is it seems like e are going to have a hot September and so I thought what better way to kick start my blog again than with some summer skin tips.
I picked my top 5 from InStyle magazine to share with you guys!
1. Top up your SPF without ruining your makeup
This is one of my favourite tips because I hate having to ruin my makeup in order to re-apply some much needed SPF, thats why when i discovered this product it was a mini life saver. Avene and Bare Minerals have both released a range of powder compacts with SPF 30 to provide you with sheer coverage and great protection for the September rays.
2. Feel silky smooth
I am an avid exfoliator and nothing beats the fresh feeling following a post shower scrub. New York dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf recommends following up exfoliation with rich body cream or oil to replenish and nourish your skin. Two of m favourites are 'Flake Away' by Soap and Glory followed by a light application of Bio Oil.
3. Fight Summer break outs!
This is probably the least glamorous tips but as you may remember from one of my previous posts that I have had problem skin in the past. Although my skin has very much improved, there is no harm in trying to keep spots at bay by fending off any bacteria that come your way. Thats why tip number 3 is all about antibacterial soaps, yep I said it. Dr Reich recommends starting off your day by bathing with Cetaphil Antibacterial Gentle Cleansing Bar to get rid of any niggly bacteria that the summer temperatures bring on.
4. You are your SPF
If you follow me on Instagram you've probably noticed I post a lot of food pictures. Although not all are healthy, I do throw in the occasional fruit and veg, which make for great summer snacks that don't weigh you down. But now you have even more incentive to eat healthy as some fruit and vegetables like citrus, berries, tomatoes and nuts have been suggested to provide us with some of the SPF we need from the inside out!
5. Do it Yourself
A lot of blog posts and magazine recommend buying new products but I thought it would be nice to end on a DIY note, if any of your feel like getting your hands a bit dirty. This recipe is for a Beach Body Scrub that nourishes, firms and purifies your skin - making it perfect for any last minute beach breaks. The following recipe makes enough for three glorious treatment that will have you feeling like a beach goodness before you know it!
1/2 a cup of finely ground coffee beans, 1/2 a cup of finely groaned sea salt, 1/4 of sesame oil and 1/2 teaspoon of eucalyptus essential oil. Mix all the ingredients, massage it into damp skin and enjoy whilst all ingredients activate before thoroughly rinsing it off.
I hope that you enjoyed these tips and had a brilliant summer! You can find the full list of tips from InStyle using the following link: http://www.instyle.com/beauty/25-best-summer-skin-tips-ever#257155
