Do you want to know where sustainable fashion is heading for the future? Well, according to a 2017 report by Accenture ‘The Future of Sustainable Fashion’ there were 5 key trends that shaped sustainable fashion in 2018!
Last week on the blog we posted the sad news that MADE UK, a fashion accessories brand that crafted handcrafted goods with artisans in Kenya, announced that they are closing after 13 years. We asked you guys on Instagram what you think we can do to stop more companies like this from closing and you guys gave some great responses! From embracing cultural and mind set changes regarding our relationship with fashion to educating people on the basics behind green fashion and the fast fashion industry. Based on that we have put together a list of our top recommended reads on the fast fashion industry in case you wanted a book to snuggle up to over the autumn!
I am very excited to announce that a new section has officially launched on the blog called ‘SOMADINA meets…’
Since starting this blog, I have met so many inspirational people who are doing many amazing things either within their communities and/or globally through their actions or sharing their stories.
It is always said that you never know how your words or actions affect those around and after hearing about what so many of the people I have come to interact with do, I had to share their stories with you.
You can read the first interview with Cassine Shop on the blog now! Let me know what you think and which brand for people you would love us to get in contact with!
I am very, very excited to introduce our first (of many) SOMADINA meets posts! For our first interview were lucky enough to be joined by the lovely mother, daughter duo behind Cassine - Jennifer and Mia Page.
Since opening their online store this year, Cassine already stocks some of the most popular natural products in the market like RMS beauty, making it your perfect one stop shop from all things good for you and the planet. With their strong focus on the future of their island, Bermuda, and the oceans Cassine donatES a proportion of all their sales to the Living Reefs Foundation, an NGO dedicated to the conservation of Bermuda’s coral reefs. Find out more about them in our latest interview!
After being invited to listen in a sustainable fashion event held by Po-Zu, we explore the biggest barriers that we face towards adopting a sustainable lifestyle. We build these communities on Instagram, Facebook and on Twitter where we all share our sustainability ideals and the ways in which we have integrated at least some aspects of sustainability into our lifestyle. Yet, sustainable lifestyles are still considered niche. Those of us who really do try to make conscious efforts to change still find ourselves in fast fashion or fast consumer traps, leading us to question what is it about sustainability that prevents us from being as ‘green’ as we aspire to be.
What does self-love mean to you? We have become so concerned with defining what self-love is and gaining advice on how to achieve it that we have forgotten that the journey to self-love is an independent and largely subjective one. This post explores whether self-love can really be taught and what this means going forward.
In 1951, Christina Jenkins invented the infamous hair weave that has now been adopted by a multitude of women from all over the world. But with diversification of beauty standards and the natural hair movement on the rise that encourages women to see the beauty in their own hair, what does this mean for weave and how is it changing how we see ourselves?
Looking around my house right now, plastics are everywhere. How do we avoid them at this point? Even by making conscious decisions to limit our plastic consumption, it seems like we simply can’t get away from them. This post is all about the effect that plastics are having on the planet and what actions are being taken in order to win this ongoing war.
As the government makes a bid to ban face wipes by 2025 because if their negative effect on the environment, say hello to your new go to biodegradable facial wipes… making you feel less guilty about skipping your night the routine.
On Friday, I posted on Instagram that it was big day for Ireland with their upcoming referendum on the 8th amendment, which if repealed would legalise abortion in Ireland, a procedure that was previously only carried out if the mother’s life is at risk but not in cases of ‘rape, incest or fatal fetal abnormality’.
With it being revealed over the weekend that the decision to overturn the referendum won by a landslide, 66% to 33%, what does this mean for Ireland?
Here are a couple of questions that may help you with planning your trip to Morocco!

February represents Black History Month and with Black Panther also coming out today there is no better time to talk about why BHM is important and what Black Panther really represents as a film.
When my friend Caroline first told me she was adopted, I didn't necessarily have a reaction. I wasn't shocked, I wasn't surprised, to me she was still the Caroline that's become of my best friends over the past 4 years but this isn't about me. This is about Caroline and the several other adoptees who have gone through this experience and are brave enough to find out more about their past and share their stories.
Today, we have a pretty meaty piece for you! As part of the sustainability angle of the blog, today's post is all about the circular economy and talks about how the infrastructure industry is moving away from a 'make-take-dispose' business model to one that focusses on both recycling and up cycling.
